This is a vintage Japanese 3 section Kimono Tansu called Isho Biraki Kimono Tansu from Taisho period (1910's-1920's).  It was made using solid 100% Paulownia (Kirinoki) wood.

The top section has a large compartment and sliding doors with. The middle section houses Kimono trays which slide out smoothly behind the hinged doors and 3 drawers on the bottom section.

The trays are traditionally used to store properly folded Kimono, these trays are ideal for storing sweaters, shirts, blouses and linens in today's contemporary home.

Separating the sections allows for placement in different rooms which adds to the versatility of these chests.
