This is a mid-century Japanese 2 section Kimono Tansu called Kamo Isho Tansu. It was made using 100% Paulownia (Kirinoki) wood and it originated in the Kamo region, Nigata prefecture of Japan.
The metal fittings are decorated with nice designs.
The thick solid wood combined with the beautiful joinery used to make this chest will provide many years of enjoyment and use. Originally used to store Japanese Kimono, it would work well in today's home as a clothes dresser or linen cabinet for daily use.
