This is a vintage Japanese 1 section tea chest called Cha Tansu from Taisho period (1910's-1920's).
It was constructed out of Maple (Momiji), Horse Chestnut (Tochinoki) and Paulownia (Kirinoki) woods.
The Cha Tansu was often used to store accoutrements for guest tea service as well as a cabinet to display seasonal decorations.
This tansu has large compartments with sliding doors and it is ideal to organize and store without being seen.
