This a vintage 2 section Japanese tea chest called Cha Tansu.  It was constructed out of Japanese Momiji (Maple), Horse chestnut (Tochinoki), Kaki (Persimmon) and Paulownia (Kirinoki) woods from Taisho period (1910's-1920's). This cabinet was used to store tea sets and items used for tea service to entertain guests. It has the Persimmon wood trim outlining the front of the chest and doors have book matched grains.There are shelves inside to add flexibility to its storage and display as well as an attractive and beautiful wood grain.
