This is modern Japanese Oki Mizuya tansu. This is a chest specifically used in Chado for the preparation as well as the conclusion of the tea ceremony.
It was made entirely of Japanese Cypress wood (known as Hinoki).
The drawer handles blend perfectly with the beautiful color tone of the wood. Behind the sliding doors hides a spacious interior where the tea accoutrements would be stored. There are wood hooks for hanging the water scoop called Hishaku and a drainage floor protected by a copper lined drawer where washed and rinsed pottery can be dried.
