This is a a mid century Japanese 2 section Kimono Tansu called Kamo Isho Tansu. It was made using 100% Paulownia (Kirinoki) wood and it originated in the Kamo region, Nigata prefecture of Japan.
Tansu made in this area use the highest grade of Paulownia wood that comes from the mountains of Aizu. The thick wood combined with the beautiful joinery used to make this chest will provide many years of enjoyment and use. All metals have beautiful designs.
The top large section has 2 front doors that open to reveal removable kimono storage trays and the bottom section has 2 drawers. Its voluminous storage combined with its elegant beauty helps bridge the design of elegance and functionality.
