This is an antique Japanese personal storage chest called Ko Tansu from late Meiji period (1890's-1910's). It was used to store letters, documents, books and other items for daily use. Made of 100% Paulownia (Kirinoki) wood.

Contemporary uses for this piece include placement on a desk for additional office storage or using this as an elegant side table.
