Antique Japanese Lacquer Nesting Box Kiri dame — 1880, Meiji Era — Set of 7

This rare and elegant set of seven vintage Japanese nesting boxes dates to the Meiji Era. Crafted from hinoki (Japanese cypress), each box is coated in a warm red lacquer, a traditional finish prized for both its beauty and durability. The boxes fit neatly inside one another for compact storage.

Originally used for storing and presenting food, this set reflects the refined sensibility of early 20th-century Japanese domestic life. The natural aroma of hinoki wood and the worn yet glowing lacquer surface speak to its age and long history of use.

Material: Hinoki wood, red lacquer
Origin: Japan, Meiji period
