This is an antique a pair of Japanese high-end wooden lacquer tray/ stand called Taka ashi zen, tall leg tray from middle Meiji period (1880's-1890's).
It is used to place bowls, plates with food for special occasions.
This stand is Roiro ( black lacquer) Shikunshi (The 4 gentlemen which are plum, chrysanthemum, orchid and bamboo) Cho (Butterfly) Makie from Matsuhisa family.
It has beautiful makie design of butterflies on top and auspicious designs such as a plum and bamboo on the side and legs. Those motifs are a symbol of longevity. There are some scratches and chips.
It comes in an original wooden storage box.
