This is an antique Japanese wooden lacquered hibachi with Makie from late Meiji period (1890's-1910's).
It is decorated with hand-painted Makie of bamboo, stamped on the side.
Originally, this container to hold burning charcoal was used as a heating device for the Japanese home. Today, this very attractive object is ideal for a display of curios in your house or it will work wonderfully as a side table.
