Antique Japanese Ko Tansu Small Drawers Box (23O-G228)
This is an antique Japanese merchant box from the middle Meiji period (1880's-1890's).
It was constructed out of Kiri (Paulownia). Most likely used by a wealthy merchant, this box held the inkstone, brushes, paper, paperweight, and money that was used for daily business record keepingm that is why every drawer comes with large lockplates and it comes with an original key and iron fittings, incredible patina acquiored over time.
