This is an antique Japanese wooden Kanbam shop sign for medicine from late Meiji (1890's-1920s).
Kanban are the traditional signs Japanese merchants displayed on the street to advertise their presence, represent the products and services to be found inside their shops, and lend a sense of individuality to the shops themselves.
This is hung under the eaves with the hook.
According to the writings, medicine was prepared at Kotoken in Koshu (It is in Shiga prefecture now) and the medicine is called Kaden Gohotan which was for stomach used during the end of Edo period.
It has an iron hook to hang on the wall and is ready to add to your home decor.
