This is a vintage Japanese flower vase for Ikebana, flower arrangement made of bamboo from Taisho period (1910's-1920's).
Tokonoma, alcove is a space at Nihonma, Japanese room with Tatami and it is used to display seasonal decorative items such as Ikebana, hanging scroll and incense burner.
The body is made of different wide size of bamboo stripes woven diagonally and using different parts of bamboo, it creates amazing colors. It has great patina gained through years.
This versatile basket can be used for a various of purposes.
