This is an antique Japanese Ranma, transom with wooden carvings of various auspicious motifs from Late Meiji (1890's-1910's). Based on the size and motif, this is from Buddhist temple. 

Transoms are used for ventilation and lighting above sliding doors between Nihon-ma, Japanese room. 

It is ideal for bedroom headboard, partition, divider or as a picture in your living room.
