This is a vintage Japanese Ranma, transom with wooden carvings of dynamic Matsu, Japanese pine from early Showa period (1920's-1940's). Transoms are used for ventilation and lighting above sliding doors between Nihon-ma, Japanese room.
This type of ranma is called Chokoku ranma, ranma with carvings which requires skills specially using thick wood like this. Japanese pine is always popular motif for a long time since it has good luck meaning.
It is ideal for bedroom headboard, partition, divider or as a picture in your living room.
