Vintage Japanese Mizuya Tansu Kitchen Chest (23F-E10)
This is a vintage Japanese Mizuya, one section Kitchen chest from late Meiji period (1890's-1910's).
The elegant color tones of this tansu come from the Suginoki (Cryptomeria), Hinoki (Cypress) woods and Keyaki (Zelkova) as a accent.
Hinoki wood is commonly used for its beautiful golden brown hues and its clean grain that makes it appealing for furniture and design accents.
Mizuya Dansu was used in the kitchen of a Japanese household for the storage of plates, utensils, food items and especially large pottery jars of water since running water was not readily available in the home.
Since this chest has many types of drawers and cabinets, it is very useful for today’s modern kitchen to store dishes and utensils.
