This is a vintage Japanese Mizuya tansu, 2 section Kitchen chest from Taisho period (1910's-1920's).
It was constructed out of Cypress (Hinoki) and Cryptomeria (Suginoki) woods. This set stacks in two sections and features voluminous storage and traditional elegance.
Originally used in the Japanese kitchen (Daidokoro), both section held large jars of water for cooking and stored dishes, cookware, and utensils.
This tansu has become increasingly rare as they are now difficult to find in Japan.
