This is a vintage Japanese small tea chest called Ko Cha Tansu from Taisho period (1910's-1920's).  It was made from 100% Paulownia wood (Kirinoki).

The front hinged doors are decorated with chrysanthemum and flowers and some are made of mother-of-pearls.

All are painted by hand and elegant Hirute style handles, nice cut-out on the side, all have incredible details done by skillful artisan.

Originally used to store letters, documents, books and other items for daily use. Its contemporary function can be used as a side table or small chest to store personal belonging and display decorative items.
