This is a vintage Japanese chest called Ko Tansu from Taisho period (1910's-1920's) made of Paulownia (Kirinoki) and other woods.
It was used to store letters, documents, books and other items for daily use. It has nice opening on top, 4 drawers and large compartment with a sliding door on lower area. Contemporary uses for this piece include placement on a desk for additional office storage or using this as an elegant side table.
