This is a small tea chest called Ko Cha Tansu from Taisho period (1910's-1920's). It was made from 100% Paulownia wood (Kirinoki).
The front is decorated with butterflies and flowers which are made of mother-of-pearls.
Every petals, stems,wings,abdomen,antennae,and elegant Hirute style handles, peach shaped pulls, all have incredible details done by skillful artisan.
Originally used to store letters, documents, books and other items for daily use. Its contemporary function can be used as a side table or small chest to store personal belonging and display decorative items.
