This is a vintage Japanese Butsudan (literal meaning, "Buddha altar" or "House of Buddha") from mid. 1900's. It is an altar that is often found in temples and homes in Japan.
The Butsudan is a wooden cabinet with double 4 panels doors . There are compartmets to store candles, incense, and sutra books.
The doors are opened to display the icon during religious observances and closed before sunset.
The interior of the altar houses has amazing details throughout.
