This is an authentic Japanese earthenware garden Tanuki statue, one of Japan's most well-known lucky charms from late 1900's.
It is often seen displayed outside of businesses and eating establishments as a way of inviting guests into the shop. Not like the standard tanuki who has a good- natured face, it has interesting facial expression. It is a chubby, round body, but not wearing a braided hat. He is holding a traditional Japanese tokkuri (sake flask) and a promissory note (an unpaid bill) in his hands.
This unique statue will welcome guests and add great charm to your home.
