This is modern Japanese Oki Mizuya tansu. This is a chest specifically used in Chado / Sado for the preparation as well as the conclusion of the tea ceremony.
It was made entirely of Japanese Cypress wood (known as Hinoki) and bamboo as a accent.
The drawer handles blend perfectly with the beautiful color tone of the wood.
Behind the sliding doors hides a spacious interior where the tea accoutrements would be stored. There are wood hooks for hanging the water scoop called Hishaku and a drainage floor protected by a metal lined drawer where washed and rinsed pottery can be dried.
