This is an authentic antique large 2 section Japanese kitchen chest called Mizuya Tansu.  It dates from the Late Meiji period (1890's-1910's). Constructed from Zelkova (Keyaki), Cryptomeria (Suginoki), and Cypress (Hinoki) woods.

Originally used in the Japanese kitchen (Daidokoro), the bottom section held large jars of water for cooking while the upper section stored dishes, cookware, and utensils.

Its wide design is suitable or large open wall spaces.  An additional bonus is the spacious storage space available within.
