Antique Japanese Mizuya Tansu 2 section (22M-E-4-B)
This is an antique Japanese beautiful Nagoya Mizuya, 2section Kitchen chest from Nagoya region dated the Late Meiji period (1890's-1900's). The elegant color tones of this tansu come from the Suginoki (Cryptomeria) and Hinoki (Cypress) woods.
Hinoki wood is commonly used for its beautiful golden brown hues and its clean grain that makes it appealing for furniture and design accents.
Mizuya Dansu was used in the kitchen of a Japanese household for the storage of plates, utensils, food items and especially large pottery jars of water since running water was not readily available in the home.
