This is a 2 section antique Japanese stacking chest called Kiri Kasane Tansu from the mid Meiji period (1880's-1890's). It is entirely made of Paulownia (Kirinoki) wood. On the bottom right corner, there are 2 additional drawers for the storage of garment accessories.
This chest features the built-in locking pins on the sides to lock the sections together and round lockplate in the center of drawers with family crest design.
Originally used for kimono storage, it would make a great contemporary dresser or linen cabinet.
