Antique Japanese Gyosho Tansu Pedder's Chest (23O-G200)
This is an antique Japanese Gyosho Tansu, peddler's chest from Bakumatsu from Middle Meiji period (1880's - 1890's). This tansu was carried with merchandise while be peddling, so it is made of Paulownia (Kiriniki) wood because of light weight, to be resistant to decay, with decent weathering.
To carry merchandise, it has many drawers with doors covered with strong iron plates and locks. It is very rare and collectible piece.
