This is an antique 2 section kitchen chest called Goshu Mizuya Tansu from Middle Meiji period (1880's - 1890's). It is constructed out of Zelkova (Keyaki), Cypress (Hinoki) ,Cryptomeria (Suginoki) and Persimmon (Kakinoki) woods. Originally kept in an old Japanese country home, it was used to store dishes, pots of water, and eating utensils.

It would make a great statement in any room of the house as well as functionality as a storage unit.

The high quality craftsmanship is well used in this chest including the inlay work of Persimmon wood and joinery. The bronze metalwork was all hand made and features sliding door handles.
