This is a one-section Japanese Mizuya Tansu (kitchen/display chest) from the Taisho era (1912–1926), crafted with Hinoki wood (Japanese Cypress) for the main body and Keyaki wood (Zelkova) for the three middle drawers and lower sliding door panels. Its design showcases the perfect blend of functionality and traditional Japanese craftsmanship.

Features:
Upper Section: Two rows of sliding glass doors featuring frosted glass panels, ideal for displaying items while maintaining privacy.
Middle Section: Three spacious Keyaki wood drawers, known for their distinctive grain and durability, add both visual warmth and storage utility.
Lower Section: A set of sliding doors at the bottom, fitted with Keyaki wood panels, providing additional storage space.

During the Taisho era, Mizuya Tansu like this were designed for kitchen and dining storage, used to keep tableware, utensils, and other essentials organized. The use of Hinoki wood lent the chest a fresh fragrance and resistance to humidity, while the Keyaki wood contributed decorative richness and robustness to areas of high use.

Today, this piece is highly versatile and cherished for its minimalist aesthetics and historical authenticity. It makes an excellent display cabinet, a bar chest, or even a centerpiece in a living or dining room. The frosted glass panels add a touch of elegance while evoking a timeless charm from Japan’s artisan traditions.
