This is an antique Japanese bronze Bonsho, Tsuri Gane, temple bell / gong from Meiji 29(1896).
It is from Kogyokuin temple that is in Koshu Nishi Yashirogun Kyowamura (It does not exsist anymore but there was a village in Yamanashi prefecture). There are names written on the side which are the donators.
This kind of temple bell is stricked for special occasions such as New Year's eve, morning and evening to tell the time, and hearing this sound can detain an eveil deed and rebirth in paradise.
The hook is shaped in Ryuzu, dragon head and Nyu or Chichi, protrusions are attached below. These are for better lasting sounds.
It has nice aged rustic look and will be a great home decor. The tone quality is very soothing when struck.
