Vintage Japanese Mizuya Tansu Kitchen Chest (23O-E201)

This is a vintage Japanese 1 section Mizuya, Kitchen chest fromTaisho period (1910's-1920's).

The elegant color tones of this tansu come from Cryptomeria (Suginoki) and Cypress (Hinoki) woods. Cypress wood is commonly used for its beautiful golden brown hues and its clean grain that makes it appealing for furniture and design accents.

Mizuya Dansu was most likely used in the kitchen of a Japanese household for the storage of plates, utensils and food items. Most kitchen chests will not have locks and will have a combination of sliding doors and drawers.
