This is an authentic antique large 2 section Japanese kitchen chest called Mizuya Tansu from the Late Meiji period (1890's-1910's). It originates from the Kansai region of Japan. Constructed from lacquered Zelkova (Keyaki), Cryptomeria (Suginoki), and Cypress (Hinoki) woods.

This style of chest was used typically used in the kitchen to store cookware, dishes, eating utensils, as well as large vessels to store water.  

It stacks in two sections creating a magnificent fashion centerpiece for the home.
