This is an antique large Japanese Shigaraki ceramic jar from the famous kilns, Shigaraki in Shiga prefecture from late Meiji period (1890's-1910's).
The jar is an amazing decorative item which has two-colored glaze, white with deep green stripes called Sudare Tsubo since it look like a bamboo shade pattern. Orginally, it was kept in Daidokoro kitchen to store food like miso, etc.
According to the Shigaraki kilns tradition, the glaze is irregular, giving the vessel a pleasant appeal.
