This is an antique Japanese personal storage chest called Ko Tansu date Middle Meiji period (1880's - 1890's). It was used to store letters, documents, books and other items for daily use. It is made of Paulownia wood (Kirinoki) and all iron metals are original and made by hand.
Contemporary uses for this piece include placement on a desk for additional office storage or using this as an elegant side table.
