This is an antique Japanese wooden Hibachi, brazier with Makie made of Paulownia (Kirinoki) from Late Meiji (1890's-1910's).
Originally, this container to hold burning charcoal was used as a heating device for the Japanese home. It is decorated with handpainted chrysanthemum and accent of Raden, mother-of pearls.
Today, this very attractive object is ideal for a display of curios in your house or use as a planter.
