Description

This is an authentic antique Japanese merchant chest called Choba Tansu middle Meiji period (1880's to 1890's). The iron fittings were hand made and it is made of Paulownia (Kirinoki) wood.

Merchant chests were displayed with pride by the owner of a shop to give customers the impression of success and longevity of the business establishment. It was almost always situated in a prominent location of the store to catch the view of the client. 

This antique Japanese tansu will make a great addition to any home decor.
