This is an authentic Japanese Tetsubin, cast-iron tea kettle pot from Early Showa period (1940's). 

It has beautiful auspicious motifs and the body is decorated with Seigaiha pattern, blue sea and waves. The water and waves also symbolise power and resistance, key elements of Japanese culture and 

Tetsubin is originally used to boil water.
