This is a Japanese chest called Ko Tansu from late 1900's. It was used to store letters, documents, books and other items for daily use. Made of Kuwanowki (Mulberry), Tochinoki (Horse Chesnuts) and Kirinoki( Paulownia ) woods.
It has nice display area which is covered with glass doors and large storage space behind hinged doors.
This tansu will be great showcase for your collectible pieces.
