This is a vintage Japanese lacquered personal storage drawers chest called Ko Hikidashi Tansu from Taisho period (1910's-1920's). It was used to store letters, documents, books and other items for daily use. Made of Maple (Momiji), Horse Chestnuts (Tochinoki) and Paulownia wood (Kirinoki) woods.
Contemporary uses for this piece include placement on a desk for additional office storage or using this as an elegant side table.
