This is a vintage Japanese Shinto Shrine called Yashiro, Omiya, or Kamidana made of Cryptomeria (Suginoki) and Zelkova (Keyaki) woods from Taiho Period (1910's-1920's).
Shinto shrines were often used in Japanese homes to present offerings to the Gods. They can also be seen in neighborhood corners where residents and families donated to the construction and placement of these shrines for all to worship and enjoy.
