This is a vintage Japanese small personal storage chest called Ko Tansu from early Showa period (1920's-1940's). It is made of Paulownia (Kirinoki) wood.
Having simple 4 drawers, it was used in a home to store letters, documents, and daily sundry items. Its contemporary use includes office storage.
