Antique Japanese Tall Lacquer Ko Tansu (23M-G109A)

This is an antique Japanese tall lacquered Ko Tansu, small chest from Middle Meiji period (1880's-1890's). It is very practical to have tall size.  It was a tansu maker's commissioned piece requested by the previous owner.

The iron hardware was hand made and Urushi lacquer was used for the finish.

The drawer fronts were made using Paulownia (kirinoki) wood and the case and drawer backs were made using Cryptomeria (Suginoki) wood.
