This is an antique Japanese tall lacquered Ko Tansu, small chest from Middle Meiji period (1880's-1890's) . It is very practical to have tall size. It was a tansu maker's commissioned piece requested by the previous owner.
The iron hardware was hand made and natural Urushi lacquer was used for the finish. The drawer fronts were made using Paulownia (Kirinoki) wood.
