Antique Japanese Lacquer Shonai Isho Kimono Tansu 2 Section
This is an antique Japanese 2 section stacking lacquer chest called Shonai Kasane Tansu. Shonai is a region in Yamagata prefecture where it is well-known for hight-quality tansu.
It is made of Paulownia wood (Japanese Kiri) and Cedar wood (Sugi).
Its age is from the mid Meiji era (circa 1880 to 1890). The lock plates, handles and fittings were handmade in iron. There is a repair around the dent.
