Antique Japanese Lacquer Sendai Tansu 2 Section (21M-B10)
This is an antique 2 sectional Japanese Sendai tansu that was constructed out of Zelkova (Keyaki) and Cryptomeria (Suginoki) woods. It has elaborate decorative lock plates and the iron fittings were all hand made and its age is from the 1880's to 1890's (mid Meiji era).
The entire tansu was finished in a natural Urushi lacquer with the body of the piece completed using a traditional wiped lacquer technique.
