Description

This is an antique Japanese 2 section Urushi lacquered Kimono Tansu called Sendai tansu from middle Meiji (1880's-1890's). Constructed of Cedar (Suginoki) and Cryptomeria (Suginoki).

Sendai tansu is a chest of drawers made in the city of Sendai, Miyagi prefecture and renowned for their highly ornamented iron fittings and three different types of beautiful Japanese lacquer coating as you see from this piece.

All original hand made iron hardware and fine Japanese craftsmanship complete this piece.
