This is an antique Japanese personal storage chest called Ko Tansu from Middle Meiji period (1880's - 1890's). It was used to store letters, documents, books and other items for daily use. It is made of Paulownia wood (Kirinoki). All iron hardwares are original and handles are Mokko style.
Contemporary uses for this piece include placement on a desk for additional office storage or using this as an elegant side table.
