This is a personal storage chest called Ko Tansu. It was made from Paulownia (Kirinoki) wood from middle Meiji period (1880s-1890's). Originally used to store ephemera, documents, and stationery, its present day function works well as a bedside stand, side table, or small desktop chest for additional storage needs.
