This is an authentic antique 1 section Japanese small merchant chest called Ko Choba Tansu from from Middle Meiji period (1880's - 1890's). It was constructed from Cypress (Hinoki) and Cryptomeria (Suginoki) woods.
Every drawer has handsome large lockplates to store valueable items and the iron fittings were hand made.
Contemporary uses for this piece include placement on a desk for additional office storage or using this as an elegant side table.
