This is an antique Japanese 2 section kimono chest called Kasane Tansu from Middle Meiji period ( 1880's - 1890's).

It was constructed entirely out of Paulownia wood (Kirinoki).

The lockplates have family crest of Kiri (Paulownia) and backplates of handles have the most famous ausicpious motif, Sho-chiku-bai, bamoo, Japanese pine and plum.

Originally used for the storage of kimono in Japan, this chest would make a great clothes dresser or an elegant storage unit in any home decor.
